Let’s be honest, if there’s one thing we’re all short on these days, it’s time. Between the constant emails, endless meetings and stack of things we need to get done on any given day, it’s hard to find a few moments to read for leisure. But, that doesn’t make it any less important to the creative process! Continue reading

New manager alert.
I’m just over three months into my current role, and about seven into my career as a whole. I say all that to bring attention to the fact that I’m relatively new into the management part of my career. So, today I thought I’d share five things I’ve learned while managing my team, with hopes that my tips will be helpful for the future managers of tomorrow. Continue reading
Business that makes a difference.
Things have been in quiet in my neck of the woods lately. Okay, okay, maybe quiet isn’t the right word, but as I’ve been transitioning into my new office and role, things have appeared quiet on the blog front. But today I was inspired, and it’s my hope, this post will leave you inspired, too! Continue reading
#NationalHeartMonth.
Today I learned two important things: 1. I don’t have many red clothing items in my wardrobe. 2. #NationalHeartMonth is about so much more than the color red.
Easing in.
So it’s been a little over a week since my first day in my new role (if you missed the news, catch up here), and it’s been such an amazing first few days! It’s not every day you get to return to a company that you not only loved working for, but also loved the people you were working alongside. Since my first day back in the building I’ve been flooded with congratulations, positivity and assistance as I work to get up to speed. But this transition into the promotions director role has been really enlightening for a few different reasons. While I anticipated switching industries and positions would have its challenges, I’ve already picked up on a few imperative skills that are helping make said switch as seamless as possible. So in this post I’d like to share some of my biggest lessons learned thus far. No matter the industry or the position you’re stepping into, I think these tips will be helpful for all! Knotted.
I’ve been knotted lately. You tell a single mom who’s worked at least 2 (at times 3) jobs the last 10 ish years that she’s going to have weeks off in between jobs – it just threw me off! Despite the fact that I’m going to work for an amazing company, and continuing to teach on the side, the whole routine is going to change. While I’m confident that said change will be for the best, I’ve been grappling with the uneasy feelings that change can bring over the last few weeks. Continue reading
Drumroll please…
The last few weeks in between positions has been wonderful. I’ve gotten quite handy (see here for specifics), indulged in a Sex and the City marathon (because, why not catch up on the classics?!), and cherished some quality time with Science Kid Caiden and cuddly little Einstein. But next week, it’s back to work I go, and I’m so excited to officially share where I’m headed next… Continue reading
Downtime distractions, er, projects.
Hello, my name’s Casey and I’m a workaholic. *That’s your cue, “hi, Casey!” No really, listen, when I say I’ve never not been plugged in. I truly mean since I began working I’ve always had a job (or multiple jobs) that required I always be plugged in for various reasons. So as I was anticipating a small break in between my previous position, before starting my new gig (details haven’t been shared yet, stay tuned!), I knew I’d need some distractions and this week those came in the shape of a DIY project. That said, I wouldn’t ever describe myself as handy. I’d actually probably lead with a joke about not being able to be handy because.. well, I get my nails done! But in the last 48 hours, I’ve prioritized the DIY. Continue reading
When one door closes…
As the sun set in the Nickel Plate District this evening, it also sets on my last official day with the City of Fishers. While I anticipated it would be hard to leave this community, I didn’t realize how hard it would be to close the door on this chapter. Continue reading
Welcome to Fishers, IKEA!
This week our community celebrated one of the biggest stories to hit in 2015, the addition of the first Indianapolis-are IKEA store, in Fishers! And for an PR professional, it was a pinch yourself kind of moment! I mean, outside of the fact that Fishers has been home for me since I was in diapers, and is my workplace, it’s IKEA, and their ground breaking (as you’d imagine) did not disappoint.
