See My World

“Mom, I don’t see myself as disabled, and I don’t want others to define me that way.” 💔 This sentiment is what so many, clinically disabled people feel. A desire to be seen as capable, a desire to been seen for their strengths, a desire not to be defined by their disabilities. And honestly, I think that’s what most of us want. 👏🏽 So, when encountering someone with a disability, here are a few tips to help you interact comfortably and respectfully:
Wondering how many public relations professionals even know a Disability Language Style Guide exists... 🤔 As PR professionals, it’s so important we reference the tools we need to effectively read h our target audiences. 💯 If you’re just learning about this resource, turn to Google and check it out! #TheMoreYouKnow
It’s hard to enjoy traditional sports when you can’t see the ball. 😳
Let’s chat press assets! 📡 It’s important for public relations teams to package their announcements in accessible formats. That should include a concise press release, clearly captioned images, a closed captioned video, and a full transcript. ✅ Pro top: Include an audio file, too. This is a great way to include the blind and low vision audiences in your launch. 🙌🏽 #DisabilityAwareness
Truth: Until Caiden came along, I grossly took advantage of walking with the gift of sight. 😳
I love this tip because it’s so easy to implement and makes such a huge difference! 💡 Accessible transcripts are a great tool to ensuring audiences can read and comprehend information shared via video. And YouTube makes it easy, just load your file in the video description box. 🙌🏽 #prtips
